Waiver services
The Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Department on Aging and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) have a variety of waiver services available for people who qualify. These waivers allow you to receive additional benefits that help you live independently. These services are available in addition to medical and behavioral health benefits. There are five types of waivers available. These include:
The Elderly waiver is for people 60 years or older who live in the community.
Services include:

Transportation to an adult day care

The Persons with Disabilities waiver is for people ages 15 to 59 who have been diagnosed with a severe disability. To qualify for this waiver:
- Your disability is expected to last at least 12 months
- Your disability puts you at risk for being placed in a nursing facility
Services include:

Transportation to adult day care

The Persons with HIV or AIDS waiver is for individuals, of any age, who have been diagnosed with HIV or AIDS and are at risk for placement in a nursing facility.
Services include:

The Persons with Brain Injury waiver is for all people who have a brain injury that limits their brain’s function. To qualify, you must be at risk for being placed in a nursing facility because of the injury.

The Supportive Living Facilities waiver is for individuals who live in a supportive living facility and need assistance with activities of daily living. The supportive living facility may provide the following services directly to you:
Intermittent nursing
Medication oversight
Personal care
Health promotion and exercise programming
Emergency call system
Well-being check
24-hour response/security staff
Meals and snacks
Social and recreational programming
Laundry
Housekeeping
Maintenance
Ancillary services
